Reliability and validity of Bodiometer’s Postural Assessment App

Body posture and its relation to health and quality of life have been studied by researchers in the fields of physical therapy, kinesiology and biomechanics. Postural abnormalities are widespread in developed countries, and they can be the main drivers of many musculoskeletal disorders, pains, and diseases. There are some advanced postural screening technologies, but they can only be found in specialized clinics. Bodiometer has developed a non-invasive, user-friendly, and affordable postural screening technology for mobile devices. This project aims to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Bodiometer mobile app for 2D postural analysis. This study will be implemented in three phases. In the first phase, the validity and reliability of Bodiometer will be evaluated using a mannequin. The second phase targets evaluating the validity and reliability of Bodiometer using human participants. For determining the concurrent validity of Bodiometer’s mobile app in measuring postural deviations, Bodiometer scans will be compared to the data collected from Vicon Motion Capture (the reference standard). For determining the inter-rater and intra-rater reliability of Bodiometer’s mobile app, the evaluation of the body posture will be repeated by different raters and at different times. In the third phase, the application of Bodiometer technology in the fields of chiropractic, physical therapy and corrective exercise training will be investigated. In this phase, self-reported postural scans and users' feedback will also be evaluated. The results of this study can confirm the validity and reliability of Bodiometer’s postural assessment technology in the allied health market.
