Practicum Position Title: Research Assistant – Biomechanics/Sport
Industry/Company Description:
Sport Insight currently provides research and development expertise for major international companies such as Adidas, TaylorMade Golf and Li Ning with biomechanical and/or sports related questions
Location:
Human Performance Laboratory, Faculty of Kinesiology;
Outside locations may include different sporting arenas/facilities in the city of Calgary.
*Access to transportation may be required.
Required Hours Per Week: 60-72 hours per term (5-6 hours per week)
Academic Session: Fall and Winter Terms
Nature and Scope of Job/Project:
This practicum position will focus on collecting and analyzing data related to high-level sport performance. Through Sport Insights’ many industry contacts, the student will organize and lead data collections sessions with high performance athletes and equipment related to the various ongoing industry projects.
Project Duties/Responsibilities:
- Organizing of testing time with various coaches/athletes in order to perform high performance sport related testing
- Shadow the coaches/athletes while testing takes place
- Organizing of testing session by booking time in the Human Performance Laboratory as well as potential off-site locations
- Lead data collection sessions, which could potentially consist of use of the Motion Analysis System, Pedar Pressure measurement system, timing lights
- Assist in data analysis of data collected
